WINNING SPRINT ... Flying Home shows the turn of foot that trainer Barry Baldwin hopes will feature in the Sunshine Coast Cup.
Trainer Barry Baldwin believes Flying Home is not without a hope despite dropping back to an unsuitable distance for Sunday's $100,000 Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m). Flying Home is best known for his middle-distance performances, which have earned the majority of his $216,250 career earnings, but Baldwin said the gelding would be running on. "He has won at this track and distance before and we know that he can handle the wet," Baldwin said. "He does have a very good sprint - we've seen it before at the end of some of his longer races. It's a matter of how the race works out for him." Chris Munce will ride Flying Home, whose immediate future will be determined by the Sunshine Coast run. "We'll see how he goes in this race before we decide whether he pushes on this campaign or has a quick freshen-up for the winter carnival," Baldwin said. "He was being aimed second-up at the Bernborough Handicap on New Year's Eve but he got a stone bruise and had to be scratched. That wasn't ideal but he's fine now and he's done enough to suggest that he will run well." Baldwin will also saddle up Banchory Lass in the Thompson Building Group BM75 Hcp (1000m). The Sequalo mare is resuming from a spell but carries a strong record on heavy tracks into this race. Priscilla Schmidt's claim will provide Banchory Lass with a 52kg impost.
