TRAINER Barry Baldwin says his decision to reduce his stable is paying dividends, helping him build one of the most consistent winning streaks of his long careeer.

Baldwin reduced his team from 40 runners to a maximum of 25 at the start of winter and the results have flowed. In the last three months, the Baldwin stable has landed 10 metropolitan winners from 37 runners.

"I had thought for a long time about reducing the stable because I wanted to spend more time with each of the horses," Baldwin said.

"It's been a good decision because we've been able to build a fair bit of consistency in that time. It's never easy to train winners against such good trainers in Brisbane and you have to give yourself every chance to do well in that competition.

"But we've had some horses racing well and we've been able to give them plenty of attention."

Flying Home scored at Doomben last Saturday, keeping intact the Baldwin stable's perfect record in Saturday meetings in the new season. The stable had runners on four Saturdays in August with a winner on each day. The promising Heart Of Many was among those winners.

The stable has also performed well outside of the metropolitan area. Relapse's win at Ipswich last Thursday added to a strong list of winners at southeast Queensland tracks. 

"I've been very thankful to my owners for staying with me while we've changed the way we operate the stable," Baldwin said.

"I've got some excellent owners and they were very understanding when we said we were going to cut back on the size of the stable."

The Baldwin stable has no runners at Eagle Farm on Saturday but Flying Home is already looking towards another Saturday run in the coming weeks.
