Flying Home is being set for the Townsville Cup.
Flying Home is being set for the Townsville Cup.

FLYING Home will embark on a Townsville Cup mission if his solid form continues at Doomben on Saturday.

The four-year-old will contest the PPG Australia BM80 Hcp (2100m) in a final rehearsal for the feature Townsville race later this month.

Trainer Barry Baldwin said Flying Home had pleased him since slogging through a heavy track to finish third at the Sunshine Coast at his most recent start, continuing his streak of seven consecutive starts in which he has finished no further back than fourth.

"He's done well and this run should top him off well for the Townsville Cup," Baldwin said.

"We know he can handle this distance and he has won well at Doomben before so I'm keen to see how he performs in this race."

The Baldwin stable is in form, notching an Eagle Farm double last Wednesday with Lock's Legend and Patent Pending.

Baldwin said the Townsville mission for Flying Home was important to the gelding's owner Tom Sheahan, who is based in north Queensland.

Sheahan has raced horses with success down the eastern seaboard, including Burdekin Blues and Simplest but a home win would be special for the owner.

"The Doomben race won't be easy to win but it's an excellent gauge for us of where the horse is at," Baldwin said.
