FLYING Home resumes from a spell at Doomben on Saturday, building towards a tilt at Queensland's country cups.

The Flying Spur gelding will contest the Canadian Club Class 6 Plate (1200m) in the first step towards his preferred longer races. And they are likely to be the Rockhampton and Townsville Cups in the winter, closer to the home of owner Tom Sheahan.

Sheahan, a long-term and successful client of the Baldwin stable, has raced the likes of Burdekin Blues and Simplest before Flying Home became his latest city winner.

"Tom told me he got as much enjoyment from his horse Snick winning the Roma Cup as he did from Burdekin Blues winning down the straight at Flemington on Oaks Day," trainer Barry Baldwin said.

"He would like Flying Home to head north for the winter and I reckon they're good races for him.

"I've got a big opinion of the horse and I think he also deserves another trip south at some stage to try their better races."

Flying Home hasn't raced since early February when he ended a campaign which featured a second and fifth at two Saturday meetings in Sydney. He went south after an astonishing finishing burst landed a Doomben win over 2200m on the Saturday prior to Christmas.

Baldwin will also saddle up Mr Light Blue at Doomben, hoping the five-year-old can rediscover the form that has netted him almost $300,000 in prizemoney.

Brad Stewart will take over the ride for the Listed Mount Franklin Tails Stakes (2100m).

"Brad approached me for the ride and said he thought he could help the horse get back to his best form," Baldwin said.

"We know at his best that he would be right in this race and he may get the dry track he's been looking for."
