Demanding Miss was among the Baldwin bargain buys to race well.
BARGAIN buy Pandora Charm will chase Doomben success on Saturday as trainer Barry Baldwin prepares for another raid on this year's March Magic Millions sales. Baldwin paid $10,000 for Pandora Charm at last year's March sales on the Gold Coast and syndicated the daughter of Monashee Mountain on this website. Last month, Pandora Charm was an impressive winner on the Coast, collecting $15,000 and a shot at Saturday's Ordanga Properties QTIS 2YO Hcp (1010m). Baldwin will again buy at the Magic Millions QTIS sales on March 17-18 (catalogue here and said prospective owners should get in touch with him. "I always try to look for value horses and we've had some luck in recent years with the likes of Demanding Miss, Havatryst and Saraji," Baldwin said. "Pandora Charm was another one we bought at a good price and I like the way she has come along. She can put herself in races and make some of her own luck. She's drawn well at Doomben so I'll be keen to see how she handles the step up to a metropolitan Saturday." Baldwin will also start Hold Me Tight, which has been posted as early favourite in the Redcliffe Racing Rabbits Class 6 Hcp (1600m). Jeff Lloyd takes over the ride and he faces a challenge from an awkward draw at the Doomben mile start. Baldwin is eyeing the AJC Oaks for the daughter of Refuse to Bend, who scored an impressive win at Eagle Farm two weeks ago when stepping from a midweek maiden to Saturday class. She led the field and looked to be in danger at the top of the straight before dashing clear to score by almost three lengths for jockey Tim Bell. "I was a bit worried when those horses went alongside her but Tim said she had a bit of a look around and then decided to get on with business," Baldwin said. "I have an opinion of her and I think she is capable of getting the AJC Oaks distance. Tomorrow will give us another idea of whether she can handle that rise in grade and the rise in distance." The Baldwin stable also has Sheeza Myzzile engaged in the BNB Fresh QTIS 3YO Hcp (1200m). Like other stables, the Baldwin camp has been frustrated by the weather but welcomed an impressive win by The Right One on the Sunshine Coast cushion track last Sunday. |
