Gold Shears connections celebrate recent win
Glenn Davis February 7, 2013 If all goes to plan Barry Baldwin is looking at big day at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Baldwin will saddle up three runners which are all on a seven day back-up. Lock's Legend and Flying Home, both Michael Cahill mounts, will line-up in the Sky Racing Three-year-old Handicap and Goa Get Noticed Open Handicap (2100m) respectively.. Gold Shears also runs in the Mittys Open Handicap (1500m). Baldwin is confident all three will be highly competitive and is not worried about backing up the trio. Lock' Legend looked highly promising after winning his maiden by eight lengths at Ipswich at his first start this campaign while Flying Home was rated unlucky when fourth over 2000 metres at Doomben last week. Gold Shears scored impressively at Eagle Farm last month when Boys On Tour was relegated to third but was not match for the Patinack Farm sprinter who benefitted from a five kilogram turnaround when fifth at Doomben last start. Baldwin is looking to the future with his decision to back-up Flying Home and Lock's Legend. "There's not many suitable races around for Flying Home or Lock's Legend and they need to go for a short spell soon if they are to run during the winter carnival," Baldwin said. "If he measures up there's some nice races in the winter for Lock's Legend and I'll aim Flying Home for some of the second-tier races like the Ipswich and Caloundra Cups." Flying Home and Gold Shears are owned by two long-time clients of Baldwin. North Queenslander Tom Sheahan, of Burdekin Blues fame, has been with Baldwin for many years while former dentist John Harris had his first starter with Baldwin 43 years ago. "John (Harris) has been with me since 1970. He's been a great owner and I think Gold Shears has a good chance," Baldwin said.
