Owner Don Lougheed received a timely tonic for his recent health problems when promising three-year-old Lock's Legend broke through for his maiden victory at Ipswich last Friday.

Lock's Legend made it a one-act affair and gave jockey Michael Cahill an arm-chair ride scoring by 8-1/4 lengths at only his second start.

Trainer Barry Baldwin has a good opinion of the Bel Danoro gelding and was always confident of victory after he easily won a Doomben barrier trial in early January.

"Unfortunately, his owner hasn't been in the best of health and is in Wesley hospital," Baldwin said.

"Don is over 80-years-old and he's only had horses with me for about six years.

"It was nice to see the horse win for Don. He's improved a little and hopefully he'll get better now.

"I was going to make a good thing of Lock's Legend in town before Don got sick and the trial win seemed to pick him up.

"I think he's a fairly smart horse who might go places later on."

Another Octogenarian owner, John Harris, also was in the winner's circle with Gold Shears at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Harris, 84, who part-owns Gold Shears with members of his family, cheered home the five-year-old mare in the Sky Racing Handicap (1600m).

The daughter of Platinum Scissors just got there by a short neck over Shezahotshot for her seventh win from 25 starts.

Harris, who has owned horses with Baldwin since 1969, was a former dentist at Wavell Heights in Brisbane.

"Gold Shears has been very under estimated right through her career," Baldwin said.

"She's won all bar two of her seven races in the city and she's now in open company."

Meanwhile stablemate Flying Home is returning home after two Sydney defeats.

Flying Home ran second over 2400 metres at Warwick Farm on January 5 then dropped back in distance to 2000m when fifth at Rosehill last Saturday.

"I might run him in three weeks in town then put him away for the winter carnival," Baldwin said.

"If he doesn't measure up to the winter he can always head north for the Rockhampton Cup."
