TRAINER Barry Baldwin says his promising stayer Flying Home has settled in well in Sydney ahead of Saturday's hit-and-run mission at Warwick Farm. Flying Home arrived on Wednesday morning, following the same formula that has given Baldwin an impressive record in his visits to Sydney. The gelding left Baldwin's stables by road on Tuesday, arriving in the care of Neville Voigt ahead of Saturday's Hyland Racing Colours BM 75 Hcp (2400m). Baldwin has taken Burdekin Blues, Havatryst, Demanding Miss, Shezamyth and Simplest to Sydney in previous years, taking every horse down by road on the Tuesday. "Those horses all won races in Sydney with the exception of Simplest so I'm sticking with the same formula in getting them there," Baldwin said. "Getting there on Wednesday morning gives them three full days to settle in and have a look around. I'm happy with how Flying Home has done since he arrived." Baldwin is confident that Flying Home, a half-brother to Red Lord by Flying Spur, will run out a strong 2400m with his trademark finishing burst. The trainer settled on the Sydney race after deciding against a Benchmark 90 race at Eagle Farm on Saturday. "I stepped him up from a Class 1 to a Class 6 last time and he managed to win that race but I didn't want to step him up like that again," Baldwin said. "So we spotted this race in Sydney and it will give us a gauge on where this horse is at." Flying Home's win at Doomben almost two weeks ago was impressive - he came from last on the turn, copped a check in the straight yet still surged home the last 100m to win for apprentice Tegan Harrison. Christian Reith will partner Flying Home in Sydney while Harrison remains at Eagle Farm to ride Mr Light Blue, which will back up after finishing unplaced in the Listed Bernborough Hcp (1600m) last Saturday. Mr Light Blue will race in the Channel 7 BM 90 Hcp (2100m) - the same race that Baldwin decided against for Flying Home. "It's not ideal backing him up in this heat but he's looking for this distance now after a few runs at a mile," Baldwin said. "There weren't too many options around and I've got a real opinion of Tegan. She has won before on De Dozen Stars, which can be a difficult horse to handle so she should do well on Mr Light Blue." The Baldwin stable's strong summer continued when Richenza - a half-sister to Baldwin's Group 1-winning filly La Montagna - won a maiden at Doomben on Wednesday. |
