TWO weeks after his all-the-way win at Eagle Farm, Mr Light Blue will move across Nudgee Rd for a shot at Doomben's Listed Bernborough Hcp (1600m) on Saturday. Trainer Barry Baldwin says he has been pleased with Mr Light Blue's progress since he held off a classy mile field for his best performance of this campaign. The gelding meets a stronger field this Saturday, with in-form Fire Up Fifi among the favoured runners for the third leg of Doomben's summer triple crown. But Baldwin says Mr Light Blue deserves his chance at the race after deciding against moving the Fantastic Light five-year-old up to the staying distances. "He's been consistent again this campaign and that win last start was justice for him because the wet track probably cost him a win two starts before that," Baldwin said. Mr Light Blue is among the most popular horses in the stable because of his gentle manner - but don't mistake that for a lack of determination as his race form suggests. In other stable news, Baldwin is looking at the next target for Flying Home after the four-year-old's smart win at Doomben last Saturday. Baldwin hasn't ruled out a trip to Sydney for Flying Home but he will first talk over the options with owner Tom Sheahan. Run Royal Run, another promising Baldwin stayer, has been sent for a spell after his impressive campaign which yielded three city wins. Baldwin says the son of Royal Academy deserves consideration for a winter carnival campaign. The stable has a busy few days with runners set for Doomben on Saturday and meetings at Toowoomba on New Year's Eve, Gold Coast the next day and Doomben on Wednesday. |
