Glenn Davis October 14, 2012 Run Royal Run emerged as a genuine staying find in Brisbane following his impressive victory at Doomben on Saturday. Stepping up to a middle distance for the first time Run Royal Run had to be ridden along in the middle stages before recording a dominant victory in the 3S Lighting Handicap (2000m). The win took his prizemoney earnings to almost $67,000 and proved patience does pay off in the long run. Five-year-old Run Royal Run had to be patiently handled early in his career by trainer Barry Baldwin. "He broke his pelvis at his first start and we had to lock him away in his stall for nine weeks and then for another two months in the yard before he could go for a proper spell," Baldwin said. It's times like this when an owner's patience is tested but Baldwin has nothing but praise for the Palmer family who deserve every reward that comes their way with Run Royal Run. The son of Royal Academy was bought for only $12,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions yearling sales by the late Ted Palmer who decided to race the youngster with family members. "Considering the early problems we had with him he's now showing a lot of promise and I'm sure he's only going to get better," Baldwin said. "He showed after his win at Doomben last month that he had the makings of a good horse." Run Royal Run, who was superbly ridden by Michael Cahill, is closely related to Bevan Laming's former star two-year-old, Ringa Ringa Rosie. His grand-dam La Caissiere was a six-times winner including the G2 Flight Stakes at Warwick Farm and Gr2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington in 1983 and was runner-up in the G1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm the following year.
